Licensees often call board staff first when an order names an EBAS assessment. Most of their questions go to EBAS, which handles registration, scheduling, payment, and accommodations directly. Questions about the terms of the order stay with your board.
What licensees ask first
What is this?
It is a written assessment of ethical reasoning. The licensee receives one scenario with four prompts and writes a response to each.
How long does it take?
Each assessment takes 60 minutes at a testing center.
Where do I take it?
Licensees test at a Prometric testing center. Locations are nationwide and international, weekend appointments are available, and a licensee living out of state or out of the country can still test.
How do I register?
Licensees register through EBAS at ebas.org, and registration can be completed the same day. EBAS assigns the scenario and arranges testing authorization. The licensee schedules the appointment and should allow at least a week.
What does it cost?
Each assessment costs $400, paid by the licensee to EBAS, and the testing center fee is included. A $50 fee per essay applies to rescheduling or canceling five to 29 days before the appointment.
Can I study for it?
The scoring rubric is published and EBAS provides preparation guidance. There is no required course and nothing to memorize, because the assessment measures reasoning through a situation rather than recall.
What if I do not pass?
The licensee can retake it unless your board’s order sets a limit. Each retake uses a new scenario and different graders, and the fee applies each time.
Who sees the results?
Your board and the licensee both receive the score report, within five to seven business days.
What do I need to bring?
Licensees need a valid government-issued photo ID showing the name used at registration. Phones, watches, smart glasses, and other electronics are not permitted, and the testing browser is locked down. Licensees should arrive at least 30 minutes early for check-in and security.
What if I need an accommodation?
Testing accommodations are available with supporting documentation, requested at registration.
