EBAS Ethics Remedial Education
One-on-one education sessions, delivered by an independent consultant with a regulatory background. A board that requires remedial education in an order can name EBAS Ethics Remedial Education to satisfy it.
The Assessment and Remedial Education From One Provider
Boards that require both can name EBAS for each and keep the two separate.
ONE-ON-ONE WITH A REGULATORY CONSULTANT
Each education session is one hour, with one licensee and one consultant who has worked on the board's side of a disciplinary process.
A WRITTEN SUMMARY FOR THE BOARD
Every education session produces a written summary that EBAS sends to the board. There is no score on it.
SEPARATE FROM THE ASSESSMENT
Consultants have access only to what EBAS publishes, such as the scoring rubric and the sample assessment, and not to the assessment scenarios. EBAS does not evaluate a licensee's performance in a session.
Simpler Orders to Manage
EBAS handles registration, payment, and paperwork for the assessment and the education sessions, so board staff have less to track.
From the Order to the Written Summary
1. The board names it in the order.
The order sets the number of education sessions, the category, and a window to complete them in.
2. The licensee registers and pays through EBAS.
A board can require as many education sessions as the case calls for, booked one hour at a time.
3. EBAS introduces the licensee to a consultant.
The consultant reviews the board's correspondence and the licensee's account of what happened.
4. The education session.
One hour, virtual, working through the case against the category the board assigned. The licensee gets a conversation about their own situation rather than a course.
5. The board receives the written summary.
What was discussed, what the licensee raised, and how they engaged. EBAS issues the certificate of completion.
Independent Consultants With a Regulatory Background
Education sessions are delivered by independent consultants with a regulatory background: former board members, registrars, board counsel, and investigators. who have sat on the board's side of a disciplinary process. EBAS runs the program and handles the administration. It does not credential the consultant, set the content, or sit in on the session.
How to Write It Into an Order
- Set the number of education sessions. They book one hour at a time, so an order can require as many as the case calls for. Every education session produces a written summary.
- Name the category. The consultant works through the case against the category the board assigned. Name it in the order the same way as an assessment category.
- Decide when the education sessions happen. Use one of the sequences below. EBAS does not recommend one sequence over another.
- Set a completion window. EBAS handles the rest. EBAS handles registration, payment, the introduction to a consultant, the certificate of completion, and each written summary to the board.
Before or After the Assessment
An order can place the education sessions before the assessment or after it, or require them only if the licensee does not pass, followed by a retake.
Sequence |
What the board sees |
|---|---|
|
Education sessions first, then the assessment inside a defined window |
Where the licensee's reasoning stands once the education requirement is complete |
|
Assessment first, then the education sessions |
Section-level results before the education sessions begin |
|
Education sessions only after a not-passing result, then a retake |
A retake result on a new scenario, after the education sessions |
How to Assign EBAS Ethics Remedial Education
A front-and-back reference covering what an education session includes, how to write it into an order, and sample order language. Built for admins and investigators who write orders regularly.
A licensee can book Ethics Remedial Education sessions without a board order. Where there is no order, EBAS sends the certificate of completion and the written summary to the licensee, who decides what to share with their board. To register, contact EBAS at admin@ebas.org or 888-676-3227.
Have a Case in Front of You?
For boards working through a specific case, EBAS offers a pre-order consultation. A short call with the EBAS team to review the case, talk through how many education sessions to require and when, and confirm the order language before it goes out.
